LOCAL PROFILES: Rina P. Collins (Book Nook Enrichment) (9.25.17)
Whether or not you have children of your own, it’s hard not to notice the number of kids living below Canal Street. As new parents ourselves, we love it, as well as the local businesses that have popped up to support those families. The latest business? Book Nook Enrichment, an early education literacy program for ages 6 months to 7 years old, focusing on building Kindergarten & Pre-School readiness skills in a small class setting. We spoke with Rina P. Collins, Founder & Education Director, to learn more…
Tell us about Book Nook:
Book Nook Enrichment is a literacy learning studio on a mission to inspire the next generation of learners through the wonder of words. Our program has been custom developed to instill skills and confidence in early learners from the ages of 6 months to 7 years-old. Our tiered classes teach core reading and handwriting skills, something we feel is invaluable with the abundance of technology in everyday life.
What inspired you to open up in Tribeca?
At first, we wanted to open uptown because we had families that were attending our program on the UWS. Once we started exploring downtown, we fell in love with Tribeca and everything it had to offer. Our program was a great fit to the feeling and lifestyle we started to learn about!
How has the neighborhood impacted you and Book Nook?
As a new parent, my husband and I loved how family friendly the neighborhood is. There is an abundance of restaurants, fantastic parks, and it offers many family events throughout the year.
What is unique about the Tribeca location?
Our Tribeca space is amazing! We are so lucky to have had the chance to design it exactly the way we wanted it! We offer birthday spaces, a mommy and me class and learning lounge drop-ins. Our unique space provides a magical experience for any age.
For those who live in the neighborhood, we will be hosting special story time events on a first come basis. We plan on having various events for parents too. All of our events are posted on our social media pages @booknooknyc (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter).
