EVENTS: Community Field Day - June 27th (6.24.19)
Summer is officially here, which means plenty of free time with the family & a desperate need to fill it with fun activities! Luckily for locals, Battery Park City Authority puts on a slew of great summer programming, including this Thursdya’s Community Field Day!
We spoke with Dana Morgera (Coach Dana), Manager of Active Recreation and Physical Education, to learn more about this free family event and what you can expect this summer in Battery Park…
Tell us about the event...
Community Field Day is a Battery Park tradition that celebrates the successful completion of yet another school year and kicks off summer with an array of classic games, community performances and activities.
What makes the event so unique?
We support the BPC community with engaging children’s programming year round, but the uniqueness of Field Day is that parents and family members are able to get involved on another level. Whether they’re spinning the big wheel to win prizes or working together at a game of tug o’ war, everyone is excited and having fun.
What can locals expect when they attend?
Face painting, ice cream, sponge bucket relays, potato sack races, smiling faces, the list goes on. This year we even have representatives from our Zero Waste committee and horticulture team tabling as well as the Harlem Wizards taking over the basketball court!
What should we be bringing?
Most definitely a water bottle, which can be filled and refilled at our water station. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Sunglasses, hats and a light snack are also suggested.
How do we sign up?
No sign up necessary! The event is free and open to the public.
