WEEK AHEAD: Everything Going On Below Canal Street (12.21.17)
Welcome to the mistletoe edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. It's a quite week due to the holidays, but here are a few of our favorites coming up over the weekend:
-Thursday 12/21 – Holiday Sounds (FREE) - Brighten your lunch break with festive music in the lobby from 12:30-1:30pm! Brandee Younger is performing.
-Sunday 12/24 – LMCC Christmas Eve Service (FREE) - Join them for a special candlelight Christmas Eve Service. Children’s programs for infants through fifth grade.
-Any day this week: DIY your own arts and/or history tour for FREE using our latest rundown of the art & historical landmarks you may miss on your everyday walks downtown!
Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits:
-Deck The Halls! - Brookfield Place (FREE) - Check out the winter runway at Brookfield Place, featuring holiday trees designed by some of our favorites, including Babesta, Saks Fifth Avenue, Rhone, and more!
-Luminaries - Brookfield Place (FREE) - This holiday tradition (live till January 5th) in the heart of Lower Manhattan is built on the season’s traditions of sharing, giving, community, and light. Visitors will be immersed in a canopy of light emanating from hundreds of suspended lanterns. Three Wishing Stations on the ground will allow visitors to “send” a wish to the canopy of lanterns above, translating the wish into a mesmerizing display of lights and colors. For every wish sent by the public during the holiday season, Brookfield will donate $1, up to $25,000, to the GRAMMY Museum’s music education programs.
-Volez, Vogyez, Voyagez - Louis Vuitton (FREE but reservations required) - There are both general and guided tours of this spectacular exhibit from October 27th through January 7th. The showcase, which details the French brand’s roots via trunks, steamer bags and other historic paraphernalia, lands at the former American Stock Exchange building for a nine-week run.
-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
