Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...

-Thursday 5/3 - Movie Night (FREE) - Join ALUMNAE Tribeca for movie night! This week's feature:THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH by Nicolas Roeg starring David Bowie Come for wine and nibbles, stay for a visual tour de force. 7-ish.

 

-Thursday 5/3  - Behind the Creative Curtain with Genius (RSVP needed) - Join for their latest installment of LMHQ’s Behind the Creative Curtain series, where big brands peel back the curtain to do a deep-dive on a core component of their business. They’re joined on May 3rd by the folks behind Genius. Founded in 2009, Genius is a unique media company that’s powered by community, an in-house creative team, and the artists themselves. They serve music knowledge to over 100 million people each month on genius.com and everywhere music fans connect across the internet.

Monday 5/7 - Mamarazzi with Mayim Bialik - Join The MOMS for a “Mamarazzi” event at Brookfield Place with special guest Mayim Bialik to celebrate her new book Boying Up: How to be Bold, Brave and Brilliant. The MOMS will also debut a Marketplace for the public featuring new brands launched by entrepreneurial moms, as well as Brookfield Place shops Babesta and Sundays Nail Studio. 

-Monday 5/7 - When We Were Young (FREE) - Now until the 23rd,  artist Carlos Rolón will put a spotlight on the worldwide trend of bicycle riding as a serious and sustainable means of transportation that is re-shaping cities. When We Were Young will explore the exquisite mix of engineering and craftsmanship, ranging from cutting-edge designs to populist expressions, that moves us forward on calibrated wheels. The exhibition will feature four bikes: Boriqua Sound System, The Majestics (For Louise) which was initially created for La Fabrique Sonore, Expérience Pommery #9, and two new bikes commissioned by Arts Brookfield, SUNNY & LEE.

Black Gotham Experience - Check out the visual storytelling project highlighting the profound connection between the African Diaspora and New York City, as photographic artist Kamau Ware shares his celebration of New York’s Black heritage with Seaport District NYC (192 Front Street). Experience a series of walking tours, graphic novels, film screenings, and workshops in an exhibition of New York’s Black heritage.

-Sea Of Light - Sea of Light is an immersive sensory adventure activated by movement and sound at the Seaport. Open through March 2018. Check out our post on it here.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
