Welcome to Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar.
Here are a few of our favorites coming up over the weekend:
-Thursday 12/7 - Holiday Lights In Battery Park (FREE) - Join us for a cozy evening in South Cove with caroling, warm beverages, cookies, and the Battery Park City community! If you would like to donate a gift to Stockings with Care, please bring a new, unwrapped gift to the event. You may also drop off gift donations through Friday, December 15th at 75 Battery Place.
-Saturday 12/9 - Tribeca Family Theater Presents Biscuit The Little Yellow Puppy (TICKETS NEEDED) - Little Girl is thrilled when she receives Biscuit as a birthday present, but will this rambunctious puppy learn how to behave and accept being part of a family? ArtsPower’s popular musical features a frolicking little puppy who loves exploring, making new friends, and even stirring up some mischief. With over 17 million books in print, Biscuit is a modern classic! Based on the “Biscuit” series of books. Written by Alyssa Satin Capucilli and Illustrated by Pat Schories. Ages 3 to 8.
-Saturday 12/9 - Washington Market Park 2017 Christmas Party (FREE) - Santa will be the guest of honor at this annual Christmas party! Riding to the park in style – sometimes by pedicab, sometimes peddled by an oversized elf – Santa takes requests from children on his throne stationed at the gazebo. Consider supporting a local children’s organization and bring an unwrapped gift to the party! Carols are performed while homemade cookies and hot apple cider will keep everyone feeling warm and jolly.
-Tuesday 12/12 - The Seaport District's first ever Hanukkah party (FREE/RSVP required) - This December 12th from 6:00-8:00pm, The Howard Hughes Corporation is sponsoring The Seaport District's first ever Hanukkah party to celebrate the festival of lights and it's sure to draw a large crowd with it's festive line up! Join for live Klezmer music by Grammy winner Alicia Svigals, enjoy a candle lighting ceremony by Rabbi Katz of Chabad of Financial District, plenty of latkes, jelly donuts and gelt for all our guests along with an indoor, heated room where plenty of Hanukkah themed arts and crafts tables will be set up for everyone to enjoy. During the party, our Seaport shops will be open for sales to help with last minute holiday shopping and warm drink options will be available for sale on the cobbles.
-Tuesday 12/12 - JCP's Downtown Lights Hanukkah Party (FREE) - Enjoy a Hanukkah candle lighting in Washington Market Park, as well as dreidel games, festive treats and more!
-Wednesday 12/13 - Holiday Lounge Shopping Bazaar - Today is the last day to check out this shopping bazaar at Brookfield Place, featuring a slew of great brands and experiences.
Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits:
-Luminaries - Brookfield Place (FREE) - This holiday tradition (live till January 5th) in the heart of Lower Manhattan is built on the season’s traditions of sharing, giving, community, and light. Visitors will be immersed in a canopy of light emanating from hundreds of suspended lanterns. Three Wishing Stations on the ground will allow visitors to “send” a wish to the canopy of lanterns above, translating the wish into a mesmerizing display of lights and colors. For every wish sent by the public during the holiday season, Brookfield will donate $1, up to $25,000, to the GRAMMY Museum’s music education programs.
-Volez, Vogyez, Voyagez - Louis Vuitton (FREE but reservations required) - There are both general and guided tours of this spectacular exhibit from October 27th through January 7th. The showcase, which details the French brand’s roots via trunks, steamer bags and other historic paraphernalia, lands at the former American Stock Exchange building for a nine-week run.
-Sea Of Light - Sea of Light is an immersive sensory adventure activated by movement and sound at the Seaport. Open through March 2018.
