Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...
-Friday 2/2 - Battery Park City Parks Annual Art Exhibition (FREE) - Today is the last day to view pieces made by participants of all ages from the BPC Parks art programs and see the creative expressions of the community firsthand.
-Friday 2/2 - Winter Games (FREE) - Keep active outdoors and play soccer, flag-football, hockey and more; organized by Ballfields staff or play on your own. Equipment provided. For ages 7 and older.
-Saturday 2/3 - Saturday Morning Show (FREE) - Everyone's favorite free kids show is back at Brookfield Place's Hudson Eats!
-Saturday 2/3 - Tot Shabbat Havdalah (FREE) - Experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the havdalah service that concludes Shabbat, followed by cookies and milk. For families with children ages 5 and under.
-Monday 2/5 - Winter Games (FREE) - Keep active outdoors and play soccer, flag-football, hockey and more; organized by Ballfields staff or play on your own. Equipment provided. For ages 7 and older.
-Tuesday 2/6 - Pictures Under the Palms (FREE) - Cozy up and unwind with your favorite films under the palm trees inside the Winter Garden! This week is Rebel Without A Cause. Free popcorn and comfy seats provided - arrive early! Seating opens at 5:15PM (with a DJ set) for a 7PM screening and is available on a first come, first served basis.
-Wednesday 2/7 - Winter Games (FREE) - Keep active outdoors and play soccer, flag-football, hockey and more; organized by Ballfields staff or play on your own. Equipment provided. For ages 7 and older.
-Thursday 2/8 - LMHQ: Cryptocurrencies: Bubble or Not? (FREE - RSVP Required) - Jalak Jobanputra and Michelle Gitlitz will discuss the token market as well as initial coin offerings, and how the regulatory landscape has evolved over the past year.
Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits to check out:
-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
