Welcome to Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar.

 

Here are a few of our favorites coming up over the weekend:

-Thursday 11/9 - Babesta's Movember "Dad's Night Out" (FREE/RSVP needed) - Babesta teamed up with Hipsterkid and Bugaboo for Babesta's Movember "Dad's Night Out" 5-8PM! They'll have whiskey from Kings County Distillery, chocolate from FINE & RAW chocolate factory, cider from Austin Eastciders and more! RSVP to rsvp@babesta.com.

-Saturday 11/11 - Saturday Morning Show (FREE) - Everyone's favorite kids show at Hudson Eats is 10AM to 12PM every Saturday.

-Saturday 11/11 & Sunday 11/12- Open Artist Studios at 373 & 368 Broadway (FREE) - Nearly a dozen artists with studios at 373 and 368 Broadway will open their work spaces to the public from 1-6PM. This is the second year of the free event, which features paintings, photography, drawing and mixed media. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work and answer questions.

-Monday 11/13 - MOTHERLOAD: BEING A WORKING PARENT IS SERIOUS BUSINESS (FREE/RSVP needed) - Hear from Sarah Lacy, author of A Uterus Is a Feature, Not a Bug: The Working Woman's Guide to Overthrowing the Patriarchy and founder of Pando, and Miko Branch, author of Miss Jessie's: Creating a Successful Business from Scratch – Naturally and CEO and cofounder of award-winning haircare brand Miss Jessie's, in conversation with Anthonia Akitunde, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Mater Mea, to uncover lessons learned on the frontlines of parenthood, and how these insights increased their success at work and in business.

-Wednesday 11/15 - Tribeca Art Night (FREE/RSVP needed) - A quarterly arts festival taking place in 25+ venues in Tribeca including art non-profits, fine art, design and university galleries as well as parks. This urban festival celebrates culture in Tribeca and embraces the diversity of creative expressions from Drawing to Design to Crafts and much more. It brings the greater New York City Community together around a program of exhibitions, performances, talks and workshops.

 

Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits:

-Volez, Vogyez, Voyagez - Louis Vuitton (FREE but reservations required) - There are both general and guided tours of this spectacular exhibit from October 27th through January 7th. The showcase, which details the French brand’s roots via trunks, steamer bags and other historic paraphernalia, lands at the former American Stock Exchange building for a nine-week run.

-Canstruction (FREE) - From now until November 15th, check out the 25th year of the competition and food drive. An extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world, Canstruction challenges teams of architects, engineers, and contractors to build sculptures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The large scale structures are placed on display and later donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need.
