WEEK AHEAD: Everything Going On Below Canal Street (2.8.18)

Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...

-Thursday 2/8 - LMHQ: Cryptocurrencies: Bubble or Not? (FREE - RSVP Required) - Jalak Jobanputra and Michelle Gitlitz will discuss the token market as well as initial coin offerings, and how the regulatory landscape has evolved over the past year.

-Thursday 2/8 - EscapeMaker's Local Food & Wine Eve - Fulton Stall Market Fundraiser - EscapeMaker is hosting a series of local food and craft beverage tasting showcases inside Fulton Stall Market as a fundraiser to benefit the shop and invite the South Street Seaport community to discover the market open daily (11:30am-6:00pm), and its CSA.

-Friday 2/9 - Winter Games (FREE) - Keep active outdoors and play soccer, flag-football, hockey and more; organized by Ballfields staff or play on your own. Equipment provided. For ages 7 and older.

-Saturday 2/10 - Saturday Morning Show (FREE) - Everyone's favorite free kids show is back at Brookfield Place's Hudson Eats!

-Saturday 2/10 - Knickerbocker Orchestra (FREE)- The Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra’s “Renaissance & Renewal” concert is a celebration of the rebirth of Lower Manhattan. The program will feature works by Aaron Copland, including Fanfare for the Common Man, and Lincoln Portrait narrated live by Preet Bharara, the former U.S. Attorney for New York.

-Sunday 2/11 - NYC Must See Week - Today is the last day to get 2-for-1 tickets to some of the greatest venues in NYC and below Canal Street!

-Monday 2/12 - Winter Games (FREE) - Keep active outdoors and play soccer, flag-football, hockey and more; organized by Ballfields staff or play on your own. Equipment provided. For ages 7 and older.

-Tuesday 2/13 - Pictures Under the Palms (FREE) - Cozy up and unwind with your favorite films under the palm trees inside the Winter Garden! This week is Space Jam. Free popcorn and comfy seats provided - arrive early! Seating opens at 5:15PM (with a DJ set) for a 7PM screening and is available on a first come, first served basis.

-Wednesday 2/14 & Thursday 2/15 - Rush Hour Romance (FREE) - Does your rush hour need a little more pizazz? Join  for two lively concerts sure to create a true rush hour romance just in time for Valentine's Day!

-Thursday 2/15 - Storytime (FREE) - Free drop-in story time for ages 0-4.

-Sea Of Light - Sea of Light is an immersive sensory adventure activated by movement and sound at the Seaport. Open through March 2018. Check out our post on it here.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
