Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...

-Thursday 9/13 - Mixmag Party (FREE/RSVP NEEDED) - Mixmag, the British-born electronic dance and club magazine, brings trendsetting DJs to spin in iconic places from the Great Wall of China to Battery Park City. Come savor one of New York’s majestic vistas at a sunset funk and soul party featuring NYC’s own Natasha Diggs and friends.

-Friday 9/14 - South Street Seaport Museum Free Fridays (FREE) - The Museum launches Free Fridays today, with free admission to theMuseum every Friday till September 21 from 3-7PM.

-Friday 9/14 - Family Movie Night: Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) & Might Manhattan, New York’s Wonder City (short) (FREE) - Broadway bound, the Muppets take Manhattan by storm in this magical musical about breaking into show business! Fresh out of college, Kermit, Fozzie and the entire cast of Kermit’s musical Manhattan Melodies head for the Big Apple with dreams of turning their little play into a big hit!

-Saturday 9/15 - Brookfield Place Fitness Series (FREE/RSVP NEEDED) - Join for a free fitness class at the Waterfront Terrace! Advanced registration guarantees a spot. Walk-ins are encouraged and accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

-Sunday 9/16 - Big City Fishing (FREE) - Adults and kids aged 5+ can learn how to fish while engaging with trained environmental educators about river science topics. HRP provides the rods, reels and instruction.

-Sunday 9/16 - Shell-ebrate Oysters (FREE) - Oysters filter water, engineer reef habitat, and stabilize shorelines. Work alongside Park staff to restore oysters and learn how these bivalves benefit the health of the River.

-Sunday 9/16 - Fulton Stall Market Outdoor Farmer's Market (FREE) - This year the Sunday market will include guest chefs from Seaport District and Lower Manhattan restaurants offering tastes of their menus and featuring local and seasonal ingredients sourced from the market’s farmers.

-Monday 9/10 - HUDSON RIVERKIDS 2018 (FREE) - From music to magic to interactive storytelling, Hudson RiverKids will keep your family entertained all summer long! This week it's Bilingual Birdies!

-Tuesday 9/18- Gardening Club (REGISTRATION NEEDED) - Discover the fun and rewards of gardening with other children.  Enjoy planting flowers, vegetables and herbs, watering, weeding, and composting. Learn BPC Parks’ green practices first-hand. For ages 6-10.

-Wednesday 9/19  – Healthy On The Hudson (FREE RSVP NEEDED) – Join every Wednesday for a free fitness class on Pier 25 until 9/12.

Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits to check out:

-Jacob Hashimoto on Governors Island - Opening to the public daily though October 31. With The Eclipse, Jacob Hashimoto transforms the historic Chapel of St. Cornelius with over 15,000 delicate bamboo and paper kites. Exhibited for the first time in the United States, The Eclipse provides a contemplative reprieve from the frenetic energy of the city, contrasting with Hashimoto’s colorful and dynamic work Never Comes Tomorrow, installed nearby in the Liggett Hall archway. 

-Black Gotham Experience - Check out the visual storytelling project highlighting the profound connection between the African Diaspora and New York City, as photographic artist Kamau Ware shares his celebration of New York’s Black heritage with Seaport District NYC (192 Front Street). Experience a series of walking tours, graphic novels, film screenings, and workshops in an exhibition of New York’s Black heritage.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
