Just in time for Fall, the newest import to the Seaport, Malibu Farm, comes us via California. Founder Helene Henderson’s farm-fresh, Southern California-style dining experience offering farm-to-table food opens TODAY at Pier 17 in the Seaport District. YES!

Opening with lunch service only for the first few weeks (7 days a week from 11AM to 4PM), the menu features fresh dishes and simple, handcrafted cocktails featuring infused organic agaves, fresh squeezed juices and local produce.

We have personally been counting down the days till they opened their doors, and can’t wait to enjoy the fresh, farm-friendly menu in the casual chic atmosphere. We spoke with Helene to learn more about what you can expect today…

Tell us what inspired you to open Malibu Farm?

I started Malibu Farm doing cooking classes and farm dinners out of my home and in my backyard. It was my husband who first suggested that I take my dinners to Malibu's then-vacant pier and open our first pop-up, since the backyard dinners were such a success. I couldn’t be happier to bring people together over delicious and fresh meals.

What inspired you to open at the Seaport?

New York was the first place I called home when I moved to the U.S. from Sweden, so I really wanted to bring Malibu Farm to the place where it all started for me. Having the first pop-up location being on the Malibu Pier, it only felt right to go Pier to Pier and open our newest location on Pier 17 at the Seaport District.

What makes this outpost so unique?

The restaurant definitely has more of a city vibe compared to the others. But there will be a similar menu with local specials. It takes on a slightly darker and moodier look compared to other locations, which largely feature whitewashed bricks and light woods. There is plenty of indoor-outdoor seating, large farm-inspired communal tables, and a bar area catering to the New York crowd. We like to let the chef of each location come up with his or her own spin to the restaurant and incorporate something we’ve never done before.

What are your go-to dishes on the menu?

The fried egg sandwich, cauliflower-crust pizza, chicken-ricotta burger, vegan chop, and salmon niçoise are definitely are the restaurants specialties, as well as a few of my favorites.

What's coming up for Malibu Farm this fall?

I am so excited to bring Malibu Farm to New York and have it be New Yorker’s go-to spot this fall. After this opening, I plan to take a sit back and just enjoy how far I’ve come with the seven different locations. I do fantasize about one day expanding the restaurant into my home, Scandinavia. It’s always a question of finding the time and the logistics to get over there, but I’d love more than anything to have a reason and to bring it back home.
