Remember the last free fitness class you took on Pier 25? Or the time you watched the fireworks over the Hudson River from the rolling promenade? Or walked along the water when walking along the West side Highway through a slew of parks and well-maintained greenery? Whether you knew it or not, you were enjoying the fruits of Hudson River Park’s team & their constant focus on ensuring New Yorkers have access to incredible green space and programming year-round.

Hudson River Park has been a New York City (and downtown) staple since the inception of the Hudson River Park Act in 1998. Spanning from Chambers St to 59th Street, Hudson River Park impacts a ton of communities on the West Side, providing hundreds of free and low-cost programming throughout the year.

Hudson River Park essentially provides an incredible green space for everyone in the area to use as their backyard. Who doesn’t love that? Just take Pier 25, a new-ish addition to the downtown scene, for example. Asides housing our favorite summer boat bar, Grand Banks, Pier 25 was specially designed to accommodate historic ships safely.

We spoke with the Hudson River Parks crew, and were really excited to learn that, asides all of the regular programming each year, Hudson River Park provides fun, educational activities to engage children and adults alike and inspire to take care of our green spaces through composting initiatives, garden volunteering, oyster restoration and much more, much of which can be found below Canal Street!

We know we’ve shared with you some some of the great programming coming this summer in our blog about the latest free fitness events coming to below Canal Street, but we wanted to share how you can kick-start your summer fitness this weekend with the Hudson River Park Games & its signature event – Healthy on the Hudson. This fitness challenge, featuring a Yoga Pod, Bootcamp Turf and Spin Stage on Pier 26 along Manhattan’s iconic waterfront, lets you test out the most coveted classes from around the city and select your favorites to create a summer-long routine hosted by the most sought-after trainers from studios like 305 Fitness, RETOX Yoga, CYC Fitness, Fhitting Room. All classes are $20 each (half of what they usually are!) and go towards maintaining all of the free programs offered in New York City’s Park for Play all summer long!

The Games also includes the Team Pentathlon—a no-holds-barred team competition for businesses and community groups—and a Games Village that includes live music, a Wine & Beer Garden by City Vineyard (#BurnItToEarnIt right?), a Health & Wellness Zone, Kids Zone, interactive photo booth, and more.

For a full list of summer programming, visit hudsonriverpark.org. We'll see you this Saturday at The Games!
