We don’t venture far from below Canal Street often, but, when we do, we make it worth our while. Our latest adventure was checking outI INTERSECT BY LEXUS - NYC, a creative space in Chelsea touting public gallery spaces, a restaurant and more. We were so intrigued by our visit that we spoke with Kirk Edmondson, General Manager of INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC, to learn more, including all the great events and experiences you can check out….

Tell us about INTERSECT BY LEXUS...

INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC is a creative space in select global cities dedicated to the ethos of the Lexus Lifestyle. Following successful launches in Tokyo and Dubai, the New York City space opened in November, 2018. It is located in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District and features private and public gallery spaces, a full-service fine dining restaurant, Bar and Cocktail lounge, café and retail destination. The unique venue combines the brand’s foundational elements of craftsmanship, hospitality and technology to create a lifestyle hub where New Yorkers and travelers can experience the brand without ever getting behind the steering wheel of a car.

What makes INTERSECT BY LEXUS so unique?

The name INTERSECT derives from the original concept to create a place where people and ideas come together. The space is distinct because it utilizes Lexus’ existing range of activations while actively pursuing other cultural pillars to engage, inspire and stimulate young creators whose ideas will shape our tomorrow. From the rotating chef program to the art installations, guest are able to curate their experience and embrace the lifestyle Lexus has to offer.

What inspired you to open INTERSECT BY LEXUS?

As a multicultural hub known for embracing culture through dining and nightlife, music and art, the concept of INTERSECT felt almost like an essential to the New York scene. Opening up the third location in New York City expands people’s ability to connect with INTERSECT and the Lexus brand. Innovation and creativity on a global scale are integral to the concept and Lexus sought to expand in a city that would complement those key components.

What can locals expect when they visit INTERSECT BY LEXUS?

NYC locals can expect a variety of culturally relevant programming concepts including full immersion events, art installations, film screenings, panels, performances and other inviting experiences. The space will showcase art by up and coming artists in the private and public gallery spaces, as well as chefs through a rotating Global Chef-in-Residence program which will introduce a new dining concept every 4-6 months. Chef Gregory Marchand of the Frenchie Restaurants in Paris and London kicked off the esteemed culinary program in November and the restaurant will transition into its second concept at the end of March.

Currently, INTERSECT is featuring an installation by interactive experience studio, FUTURE WIFE, titled “Essential Invisible.” The exhibit allows you to see the energy you emit in different lights, colors and shapes by leveraging some of the same technology and sensors that allow autonomous vehicles to see the road ahead such as LIDAR.

What's coming up for INTERSECT BY LEXUS?

While we can’t share details at this time, we do have our next chef lined up who will start in early April, as well as a few different installations that will roll out this spring.

What is your favorite part of INTERSECT BY LEXUS?

INTERSECT is fully committed to supporting creativity on a local, national and global level and will consistently spotlight young creators to bring something new and extraordinary to the space. I love that in the space, we can showcase different parts of the world as well as everything New York has to offer through art, food and design – all under one roof.
