WEEK AHEAD: Everything Going On Below Canal Street (7.25.19)

Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up... 

-NOW through 8.11 - The World Press Photo 2019 Exhibition - Considered the world’s leading competition for press photographers, photojournalists, and documentary photographers, the annual photo contest awards photographers for the best images contributing to the past year of visual journalism.

-NOW through Friday 7.26 - Her Song: Summer Music Series - Genre-defying harpist Brandee Younger curates Her Song. With five diverse ensembles celebrating the works of women composers, join for an afternoon of music all week-long ranging from jazz to classical to experimental, performed by some of New York’s premier artists and composers. 

-Thursday 7.25 - River & Blues: The War & Treaty - Tanya and Michael Trotter, the powerhouse duo better known as The War and Treaty, are one of the most intriguing rising acts on the americana and roots music scene. Healing Tide, their latest album, showcases the depth of their musical and personal pasts. Their passionate, vulnerable and unrestrained live performances, are not to be missed! Wagner Park.

-Thursday 7.25 – Live Music On The Waterfront – Every Thursday all summer long come check out an exciting array of DJs and live bands provide you with a sunset soundtrack on the waterfront at BFPL.

-Friday 7.26- Smorgasburg at WTC Oculus - Smorgasburg – the largest outdoor weekly food market in the United States – is officially back! From now until October, try out something new every Friday with 25 different food stalls to choose from.

-Saturday 7.27 - Family Farm Volunteer Day - Fun and active workshop for families looking to get outside and get dirty. Farm educators will lead particpants in the tasks needed to keep our farm thriving this summer -- planting, weeding, harvesting, and more. No experience necessary. For ages 4 and up.

-Saturday 7.27 – Summer Fitness Series at Brookfield Place - Get fit at Brookfield Place! The fitness series returns this summer with a variety of fun and challenging classes taught by instructors from top NYC fitness studios. The series kicks off and concludes with run clubs in May and the last two weeks of September. Through 9.18 Wednesdays at 6:30PM Saturdays at 10AM.

-Saturday 7.27 - Risk Management - Players take turns using beanbags to maximize the realization of positive outcomes while minimizing the probability of negative ones. Risk management is the name of the game. Wednesdays & Saturdays till 8.7.

-Sunday 7.28 – Fulton Stall Market Weekly Outdoor Market – The outdoor marker is open every Sunday 11AM-5PM on Pier 17 until 11.24!

-Monday 7.29 – Ping Pong - Mondays through August 12! The Push ping-pong returns with DJ Mike for outdoor table tennis to suit any style, casual or competitive! “Around the World” tournaments will take place on June 24 and July 29.

-Monday 7.29 – Hudson River Kids Variety Show – Every Monday through September 16th, Hudson RiverKids brings together hands-on learning and entertainment with a multitude of interactive programs and performances all made with kids especially in mind. Recommended for ages up to 6 years old.

-Tuesday 7.30 – Young Sprouts Gardening - Young Sprouts is BPCP’s gardening program for children 3 to 5 years old and an accompanying adult.  Among the simple gardening projects appropriate for preschoolers are: planting seeds, watering the garden, and tasting fresh greens and vegetables – all organically grown. Every Tuesday all summer long!

-Tuesday 7.30 + Wednesday 7.31 + Thursday 8.1 - Seaport Fit - Seaport Fit is back with its Summer 2019 lineup. In partnership with Trooper Fitness, Physique 57, and Mile High Run Club, Seaport Fit offers a variety of fun, free fitness classes including boot camp and barre workouts Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on The Rooftop at Pier 17 at 6:30 pm. Current schedule is online and additional classes will be announced throughout the summer. For those interested in attending a class please RSVP via www.SeaportDistrict.nyc.

-Tuesday 7.30 – Get Low - Get Low All Summer Long! Here's your chance to explore Lower Manhattan's hopping food scene. Every Tuesday through August 27th, get 20% off on dinner for two. Make it a date every Tuesday night and come discover why #downiswhatsup!

 -Tuesday 7.30 – Tuesday Trivia -  Every Tuesday, get your teams down to Hudson Eats for rounds of trivia starting at 6pm.

-Wednesday 7.31 – Summer Fitness: Run Club - Join Mile High Run Club for an all-level outdoor run! Pick up a participation wristband at our concierge desk (indoors, across from Theory); arriving at least 15 minutes early is recommended.

Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits to check out:

-Auschwitz: Not Long Ago. Not Far Away - Auschwitz: Not Long Ago. Not Far Away., the first traveling exhibit focusing on the concentration camp in Poland is at The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial. The exhibit will feature hundreds of artifacts including a Model 2 freight wagon used for the deportation of Jews, concrete posts that were part of the camp’s fence and survivor testimonies. With anti-Semitism on the rise, the JHE believe the exhibit is a chance to view the horrors of the past as a call to action against hate, bigotry and intolerance. On display till September 1st.

-Black Gotham Experience - Check out the visual storytelling project highlighting the profound connection between the African Diaspora and New York City, as photographic artist Kamau Ware shares his celebration of New York’s Black heritage with Seaport District NYC (192 Front Street). Experience a series of walking tours, graphic novels, film screenings, and workshops in an exhibition of New York’s Black heritage.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
