CULTURE: BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center 2018-2019 Family Series Season (9.26.18)
On October 6th, BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center (the longest operating performance venue in lower Manhattan) kicks off the 2018-2019 Family Series Season with Charlotte’s Web. For those not familiar, Family Theater Season features plays, musicals, puppetry, concerts and dance for all ages. We spoke with Eli Abdallah, Director of Marketing, to learn more about Family Series Season and their incredible lineup…
Tell us about BMCC Tribeca PAC’s Family Season...
Classic stories such as Cinderella and popular books such as Pete The Cat and The Stinky Cheese Man come to life on stage this season. We are presenting three more shows than we did last season, due to our new partnership with TheaterWorksUSA, a celebrated and award-winning theater company for young and family audiences. We will also be bringing back favorite companies such as ArtsPower and Pushcart Players, as well as new companies for the first time such as Lightwire Theater, Griffin Theater Company, and Cahoots NI (all the way from Northern Ireland). Tickets are $30 per show, but if you become a 10Club member, tickets are $13 per show. You purchase 10 tickets in advance (at a $13 rate) for the season and you would either use 10 tickets for one show or spread them out throughout the season. We have so many great shows I anticipate folks using more than one membership to get through the season.
What can families expect when they come to BMCC Tribeca PAC’s Family Season?
Our spacious theater! People are always surprised how big it is. It seats over 900 audience members. Families should expect quality shows and fun for the entire family in a state-of-the-art facility. We are easy to get to - walking distance from anywhere in Lower Manhattan - most major subway lines stop at Chambers Street. Those who have attended events in our Family series in the past should know that we have moved to an earlier time, based on popular demand: 11AM.
What is the show lineup?
The show lineup this fall is Charlotte's Web on October 6th; A Cinderella Tale ... Happily Ever After on November 3rd and Pete The Cat for two performances on November 24th and 25th, which is Thanksgiving weekend. This December we have Nugget & Fang on December 2nd and Dragons Love Tacos on December 15th. In 2019, we present The Stinky Cheese Manon February 3rd, Ugly Duckling on March 16th, Magic School Bus on March 23rd and finally a presentation of Shh! We Have A Plan on May 11.
If you are an educator and would like to arrange a weekend school trip, several of the presentations include a school presentation (Cinderella, Nugget & Fang, Ugly Duckling, Stinky Cheese Man and Shh! We Have a Plan) a day before or after, during the school-week, along with City That Drinks The Mountain Sky on October 18 that teaches about NYC's incredible drinking water infrastructure.
Which show are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to TheaterWorksUSA's new version of Charlotte's Web. We will be presenting the premiere performance of TheaterWorksUSA's Charlotte's Web in a newly imagined production. My daughter Emma is also a big fan of The Magic School Bus series and I look forward to bringing her to see it live on stage. She's just seen her first Broadway show (Frozen, of course) and is looking forward to experiencing more theater. I also read the book Nugget and Fang to my daughter's class last year, so we are looking forward to presenting that presentation.
