WEEK AHEAD: Everything Going On Below Canal Street (4.5.18)

Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...

-Thursday 4/5 - Eataly Thursday Cocktail Party (FREE) - Jazz up your spring with weekly cocktail parties at La Pizza & La Pasta! This Thursday Eataly will be toasting to the season with special craft cocktails and live jazz played.

-Friday 4/6 - Passover Friday Evening Services (FREE/RSVP NEEDED) - An early evening prayer service with time to reflect on the week, sing together, and learn something new, followed by an Oneg Shabbat treat. Friday Evening Services on the eighth night of Passover will include songs of freedom, particularly from the Jewish and African-American tradition. 

-Saturday 4/7 - Matzah Tot Shabbat (FREE/RSVP NEEDED) - A joyful and musical Shabbat morning experience for families with children up to five years of age. Come together for song, dance, prayer, and stories, followed by grape juice and challah. Matzah Tot Shabbat will include some of your favorite Passover songs. 

-Saturday 4/7 - Saturday Morning Show (FREE) - Everyone's favorite free kids show is back at Brookfield Place's Hudson Eats!

-Saturday 4/7 - Celebrate Qing Ming and Welcome Spring! (FREE) - In honor of Qing Ming, children at this Museum of Chinese in America will mold clay people, tea eggs, drum sticks, oranges, almond cookies, and more to create a Qing Ming picnic scene, as well as celebrate the beginnings of spring by making seasonal paper crafts.

-Tuesday 4/10 - Spring In Your Step (FREE) - What better way to celebrate the change of seasons than to join Battery Park City Parks programming leaders for three consecutive 15-20 minute mid-routines focused on light exercise, dancing, and games. These activities are proven to relieve stress, increase energy levels, and reset the mind. Put a spring in your step and get healthy and active in 2018!

-Thursday 4/12 - Eataly Thursday Cocktail Party (FREE) - Jazz up your spring with weekly cocktail parties at La Pizza & La Pasta! This Thursday Eataly will be toasting to the season with special craft cocktails and live jazz played.

Black Gotham Experience - Check out the visual storytelling project highlighting the profound connection between the African Diaspora and New York City, as photographic artist Kamau Ware shares his celebration of New York’s Black heritage with Seaport District NYC (192 Front Street). Experience a series of walking tours, graphic novels, film screenings, and workshops in an exhibition of New York’s Black heritage.

-Sea Of Light - Sea of Light is an immersive sensory adventure activated by movement and sound at the Seaport. Open through March 2018. Check out our post on it here.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
