WEEK AHEAD: Everything Going On Below Canal Street (6.28.18)

Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...

-Thursday 6/28 - Live Music On The Waterfront (FREE) - Join Brookfield Place for live music on the Waterfront, every Thursday June 7 - July 5! 

-Thursday 6/28 - Saturday 6/30 - New York Classic Theatre: Romeo & Juliet (FREE)Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed lovers to Battery Park City. This dynamic adaption transforms Rockefeller Park into a bitterly divided Verona, where feuding families, revenge, love and a secret marriage lead to a tragic end in this fast-paced tour de force.

-Saturday 6/30 - Brookfield Place Fitness Series (FREE/RSVP NEEDED)Join for a free fitness class with BK Pilates at the Waterfront Terrace! Advanced registration guarantees a spot. Walk-ins are encouraged and accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

-Saturday 6/30 - Color Block Party (FREE/RSVP NEEDED) - Featuring acclaimed artist GERONIMO, who will unveil a new semi-permanent installation overlooking the East River, based on her trademark massive-scale, colorful sculptures made of recycled, air-inflated balloons. The FREE all-day party, taking place on the brand-new Pier 17 Heineken® Riverdeck, will kick off at 12:00 PM with live DJs, food trucks, signature drinks and some of the most incredible views of Brooklyn, the East River and the City. 

-Sunday 7/1 - Family Day (FREE) - Head for a day that all ages can enjoy, featuring: Live family-friendly DJs starting at 11 AM, The local Farmers Market featuring local farmers, artisanal producers and great chefs from 11 - 5:30 PM, Kids’ entertainment including balloon artists, face painting and more.

-Sunday 7/1 - Lazy Sundays (FREE) - End your week on a high note with water views, cold drinks and summer beats courtesy of Brookfield Place's DJs. 

-Sunday 7/1 - Fulton Stall Market Outdoor Farmer's Market (FREE) - This year the Sunday market will include guest chefs from Seaport District and Lower Manhattan restaurants offering tastes of their menus and featuring local and seasonal ingredients sourced from the market’s farmers.

-Monday 6/25 - Hudson Riverkids (FREE) - Check out this weekly kid-focused concert series on Pier 25.

-Monday 7/2 - Ping Pong (FREE) - Every Monday through July enjoy outdoor table tennis to suit any style to the Waterfront! 

Tuesday 7/3 - Lincoln Sessions (FREE) - Head to Seaport Square at Pier 17 for a Lincoln Sessions concert featuring Atlas Genius, courtesy of The Lincoln Motor Company. Music begins at 5 PM, but be sure to arrive early for a closer look at some of the newest vehicles in the Lincoln lineup, including the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. Stop by early to grab dinner from one of the food trucks onsite.

-Tuesday 7/3 - Trivia Tuesdays (FREE) - Join  for the popular Trivia Tuesdays outdoors on the Waterfront! It's a perfect evening with your friends and colleagues with prizes and more.

-Wednesday 7/4 - July 4th at Pier 17 (FREE) - Celebrate Independence Day starting at 11 AM. Head to River Lounge for festive cocktails. Relax on the Heineken® Riverdeck with an ice-cold beer. Pick up food from Market Hall or one of the artisanal food trucks on-site. Play summer games with your friends while listening to live DJs spinning from 12-6 PM. 

-Wednesday 7/4 - Hot Country Live featuring Carrie Underwood with Dan + Shay (TICKETS NEEDED) - Spotify will bring the Heartland to NYC’s Seaport District, to celebrate the launch of Hot Country Live, the new live concert series that will serve as an extension of the popular flagship Hot Country playlist. Multi-platinum selling and seven-time Grammy Award winning global music superstar, Carrie Underwood, will headline the inaugural Hot Country Live concert, and chart-topping country music duo Dan + Shay will open the concert event.

-Wednesday 7/4 - 4th of July Fireworks (FREE) - If you want to see the Macy's fireworks on the East River, head to the FDR (specifically along FDR drive or the Brooklyn Bridge) for a view. If you're on the West Side, head towards the Hudson to see the 5th annual Jersey City Freedom Fireworks Festival

-Thursday 7/5 - River & Blues: Songhoy Blues (FREE) - Despite being banned in their native Northern Mai, Songhoy Blues, a guitar-driven quartet, has burst onto the world stage. With attacking guitar riffs, Afro-Funk grooves, and hypnotizing desert blues, these young stars share stories of exile, resilience, and strength.

-Thursday 7/5 - Live Music On The Waterfront (FREE) - Join Brookfield Place for live music on the Waterfront, every Thursday June 7 - July 5! 

Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits to check out:

-Black Gotham Experience - Check out the visual storytelling project highlighting the profound connection between the African Diaspora and New York City, as photographic artist Kamau Ware shares his celebration of New York’s Black heritage with Seaport District NYC (192 Front Street). Experience a series of walking tours, graphic novels, film screenings, and workshops in an exhibition of New York’s Black heritage.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
