WEEK AHEAD: Everything Going On Below Canal Street (4.26.18)

Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...

-Thursday 4/26 - ON LOVE  The Art of Lines, Shapes & Symbols (FREE) - This week Rostarr (Romon K. Yang), Korea/USA, is up! Rostarr will create large-scale calligraphic paintings on the windows of the Winter Garden around the poetic theme of love. Artists from Iran, Japan, India and the United States will use words, letters, shapes and symbols from their respective languages and alphabets to explore the linguistic and artistic connections to calligraphy.

-Friday 4/27  - Stone And Strand Piercing Party - Between 2:30 and 7PM Stone And Strand will be doing piercings at their studio. Email atyourservice@stoneandstrand.com to reserve your spot.

-Saturday 4/28 - Saturday Morning Show (FREE) - Everyone's favorite free kids show is back at Brookfield Place's Hudson Eats!

-Saturday 4/28 - Celebrate Arbor Day (FREE) - Join in at The Battery for a special tree-planting activity in honor of Arbor Day.

Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits to check out:

Black Gotham Experience - Check out the visual storytelling project highlighting the profound connection between the African Diaspora and New York City, as photographic artist Kamau Ware shares his celebration of New York’s Black heritage with Seaport District NYC (192 Front Street). Experience a series of walking tours, graphic novels, film screenings, and workshops in an exhibition of New York’s Black heritage.

-Sea Of Light - Sea of Light is an immersive sensory adventure activated by movement and sound at the Seaport. Open through March 2018. Check out our post on it here.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
