WEEK AHEAD: Everything Going On Below Canal Street (2.15.18)

Welcome to this week's edition of Week Ahead, your rundown on everything going on below Canal Street this weekend and coming week. We’ve vetted and collected the best events (many are FREE!) for you on the Life Below Canal calendar. Here are a few of our favorite events/activities coming up...

-Thursday 2/15 - Rush Hour Romance (FREE) - Does your rush hour need a little more pizazz? Join  for two lively concerts sure to create a true rush hour romance just in time for Valentine's Day!

-Thursday 2/15 - Storytime (FREE) - Free drop-in story time for ages 0-4.

-Friday 2/16 - RUtots (FREE - RSVP Needed) - A 10-session class for Russian-speaking toddlers ages 18-36 months, with fun games, crafts, stories, and dramatic play designed to develop Russian speaking and listening skills while introducing Shabbat and other Jewish traditions. 

-Saturday 2/17 - Saturday Morning Show (FREE) - Everyone's favorite free kids show is back at Brookfield Place's Hudson Eats!

-Saturday 2/17 - Lunar New Year (FREE) - Featuring professional artists from the New York Chinese Cultural Center (NYCCC)’s roster of performers, the program will include traditional Chinese performances including a Lion Dance. Cary Chow, ESPN Anchor and Reporter, will act as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

-Tuesday 2/20 - Pictures Under the Palms (FREE) - Cozy up and unwind with your favorite films under the palm trees inside the Winter Garden! This week is Battle Of The Sexes. Free popcorn and comfy seats provided - arrive early! Seating opens at 5:15PM (with a DJ set) for a 7PM screening and is available on a first come, first served basis.

-Wednesday 2/22 - Best Brews Of NYC (FREE) - Enjoy the best breweries from the 5 NYC boroughs as the Winter Garden transforms into a Winter Biergarten with new brews featured on tap each week! 100% of all beer sales will be donated to New Yorkers for Parks' mission to build, protect, and promote parks and open spaces throughout New York City. 

Don’t forget about these ongoing exhibits to check out:

-Black Gotham Experience - Now through March 15th, witness the visual storytelling project highlighting the profound connection between the African Diaspora and New York City, as photographic artist Kamau Ware shares his celebration of New York’s Black heritage with Seaport District NYC (192 Front Street). Experience a series of walking tours, graphic novels, film screenings, and workshops in an exhibition of New York’s Black heritage.

-Sea Of Light - Sea of Light is an immersive sensory adventure activated by movement and sound at the Seaport. Open through March 2018. Check out our post on it here.

-Sunset, Sunrise (Revolution) (FREE) - This temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza is an interactive, large-scale sculpture designed specifically for the site. It consists of 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light, and is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism. The artwork will be on view through the summer of 2018 in front Pier A Harbor House, located at 22 Battery Place and the Hudson River.
