INTRODUCING...Life Below Canal! 4.26.17
Welcome to Life Below Canal, a site designed to be your go-to guide for all things going on below Canal Street. Some of you may know us as the creators/moderators of Downtown Manhattan Parents, a Facebook group started after the birth of our first kids (both boys - help!) to connect with all of the awesome parents we’ve met during our years downtown, pregnancy, and beyond. Some of you know us because we became friends through college/work/business school/life and have either harassed you to join us & move downtown, wooing you with articles on the latest bar openings, or you’ve moved downtown and now we flood your inbox with local activities and happenings for us all to check out (with and without the kids).
After moving downtown (to an area one of us affectionately called 'TriBaFi' for a few years - embarassing) over ten years ago, it’s been a really exciting, really fun time watching the neighborhoods (Tribeca, Battery Park, Financial District) evolve, from quiet, sleepy weekend neighborhoods to bustling, family-friendly areas with some of the best dining, drinking and socializing opportunities in New York City. We’ve also accumulated a few dogs, husbands and babies along the way, inspiring even more desire to uncover all the best local spots.
The goal of this site is to provide you with higher-quality content than simply sending you emails and texts, or posting to social media (don’t worry, we will have that too!). If you live downtown this site is for you, and ultimately, by you. After talking to a few people about launching it, there have been a lot of locals offering to get involved, and we hope you will too.
See something? Share something. If there’s a new shop, restaurant, event, etc. going on in your neighborhood, please let me know so we can share it with everyone. This site is going to be in constant beta mode, so any and all feedback how to make it more useful for you would be greatly appreciated.
Here’s to living life below Canal Street!
